Ingredients

For the Stir Fry
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined Can substitute with chicken or tofu for a different protein.
  • 4 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced Napa cabbage works well, too.
  • 1 piece bell pepper, sliced Any color you prefer.
  • 2 pieces carrots, julienned
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Can substitute with sesame oil for an extra flavor boost.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 pieces green onions, chopped For garnish.
For the Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce Or tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce Optional; feel free to use a vegetarian alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Adjust for your spice preference.

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat your wok or a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add vegetable oil and let it heat until it shimmers.
  3. Toss in minced garlic and grated ginger, stirring quickly to release their aroma (about 30 seconds).
Cooking
  1. Add shrimp to the hot wok and cook for 2-3 minutes or until they turn pink, stirring occasionally.
  2. Toss in sliced cabbage, bell pepper, and carrots; stir everything together.
  3. After about 5 minutes, pour in the sauce and stir well to coat the veggies and shrimp.
  4. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes until the veggies are tender yet still crisp.
  5. Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh green onions for garnish.
