Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to package instructions, reserving about a cup of pasta water before draining.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey.
- Add minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Once the meat is fully cooked, pour in the marinara sauce and stir well. Let it simmer gently for about 5-7 minutes.
Cheese Mixture Preparation
- In a separate bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
Assembly and Baking
- Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the meat sauce, mixing well to coat each piece of pasta. Add a splash of reserved pasta water if it seems dry.
- In a greased baking dish, spread half of the spaghetti mixture evenly. Dollop half of the ricotta mixture over the top and sprinkle with a cup of mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining spaghetti, ricotta, and finish with the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 20 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
