Ingredients
  

For the basil syrup
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Adjust for sweetness preference
  • 1 cup water For brewing the syrup
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, packed Adds herbaceous flavor
For the lemonade
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice About 4-6 lemons, depending on size
  • 4 cups water Divided into two parts for syrup and lemonade
  • Ice cubes Ice cubes For serving
  • Lemon slices and extra basil for garnish (optional) Adds a decorative touch

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Bring it to a gentle simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Once dissolved, throw in the fresh basil leaves and let the mixture steep for about 15 minutes.
  3. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl to remove the basil leaves.
Mixing
  1. In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice and the remaining 3 cups of water.
  2. Add the strained basil simple syrup to this mixture and stir well.
  3. Adjust the sweetness if desired by adding more syrup or sugar as needed.
Serving
  1. Serve the basil lemonade over ice cubes, garnished with lemon slices and additional fresh basil leaves.
