Preparation
- Bring a small pot of water to a simmer and add the sliced tempeh. Simmer for about 10 minutes to eliminate bitterness.
- Drain the tempeh and pat dry with a kitchen towel.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
- Toss the tempeh strips in the marinade until thoroughly coated and let sit for at least 15 minutes.
Cooking
- Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium heat.
- Lay the tempeh strips directly on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes until they develop a char.
- Flip the strips, brush with BBQ sauce, and grill for an additional 4-5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let rest. Brush with more BBQ sauce before serving if desired.

Notes
Use seitan for a different texture or gluten-free BBQ sauce if needed. You can marinate the tempeh overnight for deeper flavor. Consider adding liquid smoke to enhance smokiness.
