Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk with a splash of vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix-Ins
  • 1/2 cup colorful sprinkles plus extra for garnish
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips or nuts optional for added texture

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter and work it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the flour mixture and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Fold in the colorful sprinkles.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a well-floured surface and shape it into a 1-inch thick circle. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
  7. Transfer the cut scones onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart. Sprinkle extra sprinkles on top if desired.
Baking
  1. Bake the scones for about 15-18 minutes or until lightly golden.
