Main Ingredients
  • 1 box saltine crackers (or any preferred cracker) Saltines are traditional, but feel free to substitute with other types.
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Use 2 sticks.
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Milk or dark, or substitute with peanut butter chips or white chocolate.
  • optional Sea salt or chopped nuts For topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Caramel Sauce
  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the unsalted butter and brown sugar. Stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Allow to bubble for about 3 to 5 minutes while stirring occasionally until the mixture thickens and turns a golden color.
Assembly & Baking
  1. Pour the caramel generously over the arranged crackers, ensuring an even coating.
  2. Bake in the oven for about 5 to 7 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  3. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer and let them sit for 1-2 minutes to soften.
  4. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the caramel using a spatula.
  5. Optionally sprinkle sea salt or chopped nuts on top before the chocolate sets.
  6. Allow the tray to cool, then cut into squares or break into pieces.
