  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Cinnamon Sugar Mixture
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
Optional Toppings
  • Cream cheese frosting or glaze Optional for serving.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x13-inch baking dish by greasing it lightly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Cinnamon Sugar Assembly
  1. In another bowl, combine the brown sugar and ground cinnamon to make your cinnamon sugar mixture.
  2. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over it.
  3. Pour in the remaining batter and finish with the last sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.
  4. Use a knife to swirl through the batter gently to create a marbled effect.
Baking
  1. Bake the cake for 20-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Feel free to explore different flavor combinations! Adding chopped nuts can provide a delightful crunch. For a healthier twist, consider substituting whole wheat flour or using applesauce for some of the butter. Add zest from an orange or lemon for a fruity flavor.
