Ingredients

Doughnut Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon plus more for coating
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (or substitute with plant-based milk for a vegan option)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (or coconut oil for vegan)
  • 1 large egg (or a flax egg for vegan)
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a doughnut pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, and egg until smooth.
Mixing and Baking
  1. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be cautious not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  2. Transfer the batter into a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a corner cut off. Pipe the batter into the prepared doughnut pan, filling each cavity about halfway.
  3. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until they’re lightly golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  4. Remove from the oven and let them cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Coating
  1. While the doughnuts are still warm, mix the sugar and cinnamon for the coating in a bowl. Coat each doughnut generously in this mixture.
