Preparation
- Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together in a large bowl until the mixture turns pale and thick.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the milk and cream, stirring occasionally until warm but not boiling.
- Gradually pour the warm milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture while constantly whisking to prevent scrambling.
- Transfer the mixture back into the saucepan and whisk continuously until thickened, about 5-8 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the bourbon, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
- Allow cooling before refrigerating for at least an hour.
Serving
- Pour the chilled eggnog into glasses and garnish with a sprinkle of nutmeg.
