Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk until no lumps remain.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs and mix with the milk and melted butter until smooth.
- Gradually add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
Rolling and Frying
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness.
- Use a round cutter to cut out circles and a smaller cutter for the holes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully drop in a few doughnuts at a time, frying until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Glazing
- In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
- Dip the warm doughnuts into the glaze and place on a wire rack to set.

Notes
For a unique twist, try topping the doughnuts with sprinkles, chocolate glaze, or filling them with jam. Doughnuts can also be served alongside fruity dishes like strawberry shortcake.
