Ingredients

For the Churro Bites
  • 1 cup angel food cake mix or homemade
  • 2 thirds cup water
  • 1 quarter cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
For the Coating
  • 1 half cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
For Optional Dippings
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Caramel sauce
  • Whipped cream

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare your angel food cake batter, following the package instructions or your homemade recipe. It should be fluffy and airy.
  2. Transfer the mixture into a piping bag or a zip-lock bag with a corner snipped off.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Drop a small spoonful of batter into the oil to check if it sizzles.
Cooking
  1. Pipe about a 2-3 inch long strip of the batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on one side, then flip to brown the other.
  2. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and let any excess oil drip off.
Coating
  1. Mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl while the churro bites are still warm.
  2. Toss the churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated.
  3. Serve with optional dipping sauces.
