Method
Preparing the Dough
- Warm the milk slightly until it’s warm to the touch. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Beat in the eggs and softened butter, blending well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, matcha powder, and salt. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms.
Kneading and Rising
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping the Rolls
- Once risen, punch the dough down gently and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread chocolate chips or nuts evenly over the dough if desired, then roll it up tightly starting from one end.
- Slice the rolled dough into equal pieces and place them cut-side up in a greased baking dish.
Final Rise and Bake
- Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Once risen, bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and fragrant.
