Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup orange juice, freshly squeezed for best flavor
  • 1 each zest of 1 orange
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans) optional

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix these dry ingredients until well blended.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth, then add the orange juice, zest, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir this mixture until it’s combined and creamy.
  4. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix. If you’re adding nuts, fold them in at this point.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake it in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Once out of the oven, let your Orange Bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Feel free to customize this recipe by substituting some of the all-purpose flour with almond or whole wheat flour for a nutty flavor. For a vegan version, replace the eggs with flax eggs and use plant-based butter.
