Ingredients

Scone Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or cinnamon)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or nuts (optional) For added flavor and texture

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture and cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the pumpkin puree, heavy cream, and egg until well blended.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  6. Turn your dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a circle about 1 inch thick.
  7. Cut the circle into wedges or use a round cutter to stamp out individual scones.
  8. Transfer them to your prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced apart for even baking.
Baking
  1. Bake your scones in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Notes

To elevate your pumpkin scones, consider incorporating a cream cheese glaze on top or sprinkling with coarse sugar before baking. For a vegan option, replace the butter with coconut oil and use almond milk instead of cream. Variations can include different spices or adding cheese and herbs.
