Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape them into oval patties, about 1 inch thick.
Cooking
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter. Once it’s melted and bubbling, place the patties in the skillet.
- Cook for 5-6 minutes on each side until nicely browned and reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
- Transfer the patties to a plate and keep warm. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of butter and sprinkle in the flour; stir for about a minute to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the beef broth while scraping up any brown bits. Stir until thickened, around 3-5 minutes.
- Optionally, add a pinch of garlic powder and onion powder for extra flavor. Return the patties to the gravy and simmer for 10 more minutes.

Notes
Serve Salisbury steak over creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy egg noodles, with a side of green beans or corn. Crusty bread is perfect for mopping up leftover gravy.
