Cake Batter
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix You can use your favorite homemade chocolate cake recipe as well.
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Melted coconut oil can also be used.
  • 3 large eggs Can be replaced with flax eggs for a vegan option.
Cream Cheese Filling
  • 8 ounces cream cheese Should be softened.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • a pinch salt
Toppings
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, chopped Frozen strawberries can be used as a substitute.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional for extra chocolaty flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Assembly
  1. Pour about half of the cake batter into the prepared dish.
  2. In another bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until creamy.
  3. Dollop the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter.
  4. Scatter the chopped strawberries over the cream cheese layer and sprinkle with chocolate chips, if desired.
  5. Spoon the remaining cake batter over the top, covering the strawberries and cream cheese as best as you can.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
