Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries (about 3 cups)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (about 2-3 large oranges)
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional for depth)

Method

Preparation
  1. Rinse the cranberries under cold water, discarding any that are soft or spoiled.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, and fresh orange juice.
  3. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  4. Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer.
Cooking
  1. Allow cranberries to heat until they begin to pop and release their tart juices (about 10–15 minutes).
  2. Stir in the orange zest, cinnamon, and cloves during the last few minutes of cooking.
  3. Test the consistency by drizzling a spoonful on a chilled plate; it should resemble a jam.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before transferring to sterilized jars.

Notes

You can substitute half the sugar with honey for a healthier twist, or use any citrus juice on hand. For a vegan version, replace granulated sugar with coconut sugar or maple syrup.
